Originally from the Midwest, my art styles are a mix of organic, flowing shapes and the smooth starkness of ink all in one place. I specialize in multimedia art -- which to me just means using whatever fits the piece to make something come to life. Materials, colors, and textures are all fair game. As a queer artist, I've always been fascinated by this idea of transformation, of monster-making, and coming back to life.
Within my work, listed either under the handle "@orrionnge" or the name MATERIAL DYSTOPIA (@materialdystopia), I'm really taken by the nature and the natural coming back into itself -- having the kind of art you make with your hands displayed in the cracked brick of concrete jungles. I like the idea of involving people in art by taking art into the public, rather than trying to gather an audience. My kind of performance art.
My current project, THE ORACLE, is a two-parter, with a digital component and a material component interwoven into it. Inspired in both name and concept by the Delphic Oracle of Ancient Greece, this project is my way of getting people to interact with their own fates. Like asking a Magic 8-Ball for advice, but only after you saw one sitting somewhere out of the ordinary... somewhere that sort of, draws you in. Somewhere you have to choose to go. A lot of this work is monochromatic, and I have a special fondness for the starkness of black and white and neon green, as you can see here on the site and on LOVE EXPOSURE!
